How to reach us

A. Finding us in the MI-Building

The building is divided into 13 blocks (see the map below). Our group is on the third floor of block 11.

B. Locating the MI-Building on the campus

The MI-Building is located in the south-west of the campus. On this map the MI-Building is the building 5600. You also find the U-Bahn station (in the center) and the bus station right next to it.

C. Reaching TUM-Campus Garching

C.1. From Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof München)

By U-Bahn (subway):

• Take U-Bahn U1 in the direction of Mangfallplatz or U2 in the direction of Kolumbusplatz or Messestadt Ost and get off at the next stop, Sendlinger Tor. From here take U-Bahn U6 in the direction of Garching-Forschungszentrum, the final station (approx. 30 minutes).
  
  
• Alternatively, take any S-Bahn in the direction of Marienplatz or Ostbahnhof, but leave the train at the station Marienplatz (this will take only 3 minutes). Here, also take the U-Bahn U6 towards Garching-Forschungszentrum.

C.2. From Munich International Airport (Flughafen München)

Arriving in Munich International Airport, you have to look for the S-Bahn signs . There take one of

• S8: At the third station called Ismaning (14 minutes later) leave the S-Bahn and take the bus no. 230 to Garching-Forschungszentrum. Get off the bus at the final stop.
• S1: At the second station called Neufahrn (8 minutes later) leave the S-Bahn and take the bus no. 690 to Garching-Forschungszentrum. Get off the bus at the final stop.

C.3. By Car:

Either you come from the south (e.g. the city) or from the north (e.g. the airport) you preferably take highway no. 9 (A9 - München-Nürnberg). Leave the highway at the exit Garching Nord (exit 70) and from there (either to the right or left) straight; through the next traffic lights, following the sign to the Forschungsinstitute. There exist parking opportunities at the left-hand side of the Ludwig-Prandtl-Straße.

C.4. By Bicycle:

Coming from the city centre of Munich, you have two options: along the river Isar (quiet, longer distance, gravel path) or along the main roads (noisy, more direct route, bumpy bike lanes).

If you ride along the river Isar, follow the path on the left bank until you reach the bridge between Garching and Ismaning. Ride through the tunnel underneath the road, then follow the yellow signposts to "Forschungszentrum". These will instruct you to turn left some 500 meters after reaching the bridge.

If you choose the direct path, follow Ludwigstraße/Leopoldstraße to the north out of the city centre. At Münchener Freiheit, turn right into Ungererstraße, which will eventually leave town and reach Garching. 500 meters after leaving Garching, turn right to reach the campus.
